Pedicure or cleaning supplies? If I can save a few bucks by making cleaning supplies myself, I’m going to do it. Especially if the product I make is better than the store bought one! Even though I don’t work outside the home, I say “saving money is making money.” Well, if that money goes to pedicures, maybe that’s not so true, but you get the point! Today we are making dishwasher detergent. Here’s how:
DIY Dishwasher Detergent
1 box Borax (76 oz) found in detergent aisle
1 box Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (55 oz) found in detergent aisle
24 packages unsweetened lemonade drink mix, like koolaid (Note: lemonade will stain soap dispenser yellow. Another option would be citric acid, but it is harder to find.)
3 cups Epsom Salt
The original recipe calls for Lemishine to be added to each load, but vinegar as a rinse aid works as well.
Found this on Pinterest, of course! (original recipe can be found here)
Just mix all these ingredients together in a large bowl. I like to use a plastic container with a lid and shake it up so I don’t have to breathe in all the powder that gets stirred up. The smell is quite strong, but clean! You might have to use a whisk to break up some clumps. At this point, I put a portion in a mason jar with a Tbsp tied on with a rubberband. I keep the rest stored in the plastic container. Use one tablespoon per load. It will last forever! Now go spend that money on something more fun than soap!
